A message from the owner,
In 2001, I started Rochester's first Breakfast and Lunch restaurant with a simple belief that holds true to this day; To serve fresh and original breakfast items, with a friendly staff that cares passionately about their guests. I aspired to be the location that Rochester starts their day in.
We opened in 2001. I purchased a small closed restaurant, fixed it up, put $35 in the cash register ($35 because that is all that I had left), and opened the doors. Social Media did not exist yet. We opened three years before Facebook, five years ahead of Twitter, and several years before picture phones were standard.
So, I built the business the only way I knew how. By sticking carry out menus under car windshield wipers all over downtown, giving samples of food to businesses on Main Street, and by treating every customer that gave us a try, like a family member.
After a few months Downtown Café had a good following, and by a stroke of luck, the local paper at the time ran a story about us and placed it on their front page (The article is framed and is on the wall in the back of the café). The next morning a line formed at the side of the building and we have not had much of a break since.
We make almost everything from scratch here. Our soups are made in our own kitchen. They are not bought frozen from the same company that delivers bleach to us. We use all fresh vegetables in our items. We make our pancake batter from scratch daily. We boil, hand slice, and grill our breakfast potatoes. We cook our corned beef on premise. We squeeze fresh oranges on our front counter for orange juice. Our wheat bread comes fresh from Give Thanks Bakery in Rochester. We offer all-natural jelly on our tables.
We do these things because we are passionate about providing our guests with warm-hearted service, and high quality, delicious food.
We hope you choose to begin your day with us, and we look forward to having you in our café soon!
Sincerely,
Tim Delaney
